I made this graduation shadow box to showcase my master’s degree cap. I worked really hard on designing the cap and I wanted to find a way to showcase it. I discovered the shadow box idea on Pinterest and I ran with it! I didn’t decorate my graduation cap for my bachelor’s degree, but now I really wish I had because I LOVE how this project came out.

Materials
Shadow box (I used a 16in x 20in)
Sewing pins (as many as you need to pin all your items down)
Graduation items! (cap, sash, tassel, lei, diploma, pictures, etc.)
Directions
Honestly, this project is super easy. I probably don’t have to give any directions!
- Open your shadow box and arrange your items on top of the base how you like them.
- My shadow box came with four sewing pins. You will probably need a LOT more than that. The base of the shadow box basically allows you to pin your items in place using the sewing pins. Pin your items in multiple places so that they will not move around once you put the box upright.
- Hold the base upright to make sure that your items do not move. Add additional sewing pins if needed.
- Place the glass top over the base and close it shut. That’s it!
I included my cap, sash, tassel, and this fabric lei that my friends who attended my graduation ceremony gave to me. I’m so excited to hang this up! I think a shadow box like this definitely serves as a reminder of an amazing accomplishment which can help you to stay motivated and positive! It’s so important to recognize and take pride in our accomplishments that we worked so hard for 🙂
Have you made a shadow box before? What did you include inside of it? I’d love to know!
